Kolkata, November 8 (IANS) A youth was buried dead in a landslide in a coal mine in Asansol in West Burdwan district. Police gave this information.
A legal coal mine collapsed on Saturday morning in Charanpur village of Barabani area of Asansol.
According to administrative sources, despite the mine being legal, illegal coal mining was going on there for a long time, avoiding the eyes of the state administration. Sources said that only a section of villagers were involved in this activity.
It was revealed that a section of villagers and local people had entered the mine in a similar manner in the morning. According to the police, a young man was crushed to death due to land subsidence. The rest of the villagers present on the spot ran away.
A section of local people fear that many more people may be trapped inside the coal mine. However, the police have dismissed that apprehension and claimed that only the body of the youth, identified as Saurabh Goswami, has been recovered.
After recovering the body, the police sent it for post-mortem. It was found out that the young man’s house is in the nearby village Domohani.
A senior official of the Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate said, “A body has been recovered from the coal mine. The youth died due to landslide. The body has been sent for post-mortem.”
People allege that illegal coal mining has been going on in the coal mine for a long time, the local people work in the mines risking their lives, avoiding the local administration and central security forces.
Locals claimed that the mine officials and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which guards the mine, are silent despite knowing everything.
Local sources have also said that a section of residents of the area, just to earn a living, try to enter the mine in a risky manner to steal coal.
