Patna, November 8 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday accused the Grand Alliance of pushing Champaran, the land of Satyagraha, into a den of thugs and dacoits.
Addressing a rally in Bettiah, the headquarters of West Champaran district, he said, “Bettiah and Champaran have witnessed the most horrific form of jungle raj of the RJD and Congress. Those who carried out this jungle raj made this sacred land of Satyagraha a den of thugs and dacoits. Murders were common, and it was difficult for sisters and daughters to even step out of their homes.”
PM Modi argued that when the rule of law collapses, the most vulnerable are the first to suffer.
He said, “Where the rule of law fails, the poor, the deprived and the oppressed suffer the most. Where guns and extortion prevail, the dreams of the youth are crushed. Where hooliganism reigns, businesses are ruined and trade and commerce come to a standstill.”
Making a comparison between the rule of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Nitish Kumar, he said that good governance came in Bihar during the reign of NDA and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, whereas during the rule of RJD, people lived in constant fear.
He said, “You have seen peace under the leadership of Nitish Kumar. Now it is our collective responsibility to save Bihar from jungle raj.”
PM Modi claimed that “A video was shared at the RJD rally, in which a media person asks a child why he came to the ‘Lalten’ party rally. And the child says that he wants to become a colourist.”
PM Modi said that Bihar has defined the idea of social justice for the country, but now it has to lead development.
PM Modi said, “Bihar will become a new example of a prosperous, developed India. Today I have come to Bettiah, Champaran, to seek your blessings for my colleagues. The day is not far when Bihar will be known as a powerhouse of food processing, tourism, textiles and technology.”
He said record numbers of people attended NDA rallies and claimed that polling trends showed widespread support across social groups.
He said, “During my entire election campaign, I have seen that one rally broke the record of the previous rally, records were broken one after the other. In the first phase of voting, you have broken all post-independence records. Youth, women, poor brothers and sisters, middle class and farmers in Bihar have taken charge of the election campaign in support of the NDA.”
He said that the people themselves are fighting the elections.
He said, “I can say that this election is not being fought by any NDA leader, but by the people of Bihar. We do not want a corrupt government, we want an NDA government once again.”
PM Modi said that Bettiah was his concluding rally in this Bihar election campaign.
PM Modi said, “I started my campaign after taking blessings at the birthplace of Bharat Ratna Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur. And today, here in Champaran, the land of Bapu’s Satyagraha, this is my last public meeting of this election campaign. This land of Champaran Satyagraha is the land of resolve.”
He said that the role of Champaran is important in the development journey that NDA is planning.
He said, “As we walk on the path of a developed Bihar, the role of Champaran is once again very important. This huge crowd in Bettiah reflects the mood of Champaran.”
