New Delhi, Nov 7 (IANS) The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday announced that re-polling in the first phase of Bihar assembly elections has not been recommended after a detailed post-poll scrutiny of voting records and related documents.
In a press note, the ECI said Form 17A (Register of Voters) and other polling day documents were scrutinized in all the 121 assembly constituencies where voting was held in the first phase.
The exercise, aimed at ensuring transparency and identifying any malpractices at polling stations, was conducted smoothly in the presence of 121 returning officers and an equal number of general observers appointed by the Commission.
Around 455 candidates and their agents participated in the scrutiny process.
The Commission had earlier issued detailed instructions for post-voting verification, underscoring its commitment towards fair and transparent elections.
“After investigation, no anomalies/malpractices were found at any polling station and re-polling in the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections is not recommended,” the ECI said in its press note.
Officials confirmed that the entire investigation process was videographed for record and transparency purposes. Once the examination is completed, all Form 17A and related election materials are re-sealed with the official seal of the Returning Officer.
“The entire process was videographed and after scrutiny the Form 17A and related materials were re-sealed with the seal of the RO,” it said.
Bihar Assembly elections are being held in two phases, the first phase concluded on Thursday, where the voting percentage was recorded at 64.66 percent.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar congratulated the voters of Bihar for historic turnout in the first phase of assembly elections since 1951. He thanked the voters for expressing their full faith in the Election Commission of India and voting in such large numbers with enthusiasm and enthusiasm.
