New Delhi, Nov 7 (IANS) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against one accused and additional charges against five others in the 2023 Madhya Pradesh terror conspiracy case linked to the banned Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HUT) terror organisation. The agency gave this information on Friday.
The counter-terrorism agency has filed its first supplementary charge sheet in case RC-15/2023/NIA/DLI before the NIA special court in Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh).
“With this, a total of 18 accused have been chargesheeted so far in the HUT conspiracy case. The original chargesheet was filed against 17 accused on November 4, 2023,” the NIA said in its press note.
The supplementary chargesheet filed on Friday has named Mohsin Khan alias Dawood, Mohammed Alam, Misbah-ul-Hassan, Yasir Khan, Syed Danish Ali and Mohammed Shahrukh for their involvement in the terrorist act related to burning of a police officer’s car on the instructions of their foreign handler.
“While Mohsin has been charged fresh under various sections of the UA(P) Act and IPC, additional provisions of the UA(P) Act and IPC have been invoked against the other five accused who were charged in the original charge sheet,” the agency said.
Notably, the case was originally registered in May 2023 by the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS), Bhopal, “based on information that members of HUT were secretly recruiting Muslim youth to overthrow the democratically elected government in Madhya Pradesh and other parts of India and establish a Sharia-based caliphate.”
The agency further explained: “Secret meetings were held under the guise of religious gatherings (dars) to spread anti-democratic ideology, promote communal hatred and incite youth to commit acts of violent jihad. According to the investigation, the group also conducted physical training and combat-style exercises to prepare themselves for violent acts in the future.”
NIA is continuing the investigation into the larger conspiracy of HUT and tracking down its absconding members, supporters and foreign operators to destroy the anti-India organizational and financial structure of the terrorist organization.
