Ahmedabad, Nov 7 (IANS) To mark 150 years of India’s national song Vande Mataram, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Shanghvi joined Border Security Force (BSF) personnel for a mass rendition of the song at the border outpost in Moti Cher village of Lakhpat taluka in Kutch.
On this occasion, he called upon the people to strengthen the spirit of self-reliance and national unity and also administered the oath to adopt indigenous practices. Speaking at the programme, Sanghvi said that Vande Mataram is the essence of India’s unity and patriotism.
He said that the song played an important role during the Indian independence movement and inspired countless citizens with the values of sacrifice, dedication and love for the nation. He said that, with the inspiration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram is being celebrated across the country – from Kashmir to Kanyakumari – through mass singing and patriotic celebrations in the borders and coastal areas.
The Deputy Chief Minister also interacted with BSF personnel during a friendly ‘Chai Pe Charcha’ session and acknowledged their dedication and service in protecting the country’s borders. Prominent dignitaries including Devjibhai Varchand, Range IG Chirag Kordia, Virendrasingh Yadav, District Development Officer Utsav Gautam and Commandant of 176th BSF Battalion Yogesh Kumar and many officers, police officers and jawans were present in the programme.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the year-long commemoration of 150 years of India’s national song Vande Mataram at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.
The event celebrated the enduring legacy of the song that ignited the spirit of India’s independence movement and remains a symbol of unity and national pride. On the occasion, the Prime Minister also released a special commemorative stamp and coin dedicated to Vande Mataram and unveiled a digital portal to mark the 150th anniversary celebrations.
The highlight of the event was the mass singing of the full version of Vande Mataram led by Prime Minister Modi, with participation from citizens across the country. The nationwide initiative saw people from different walks of life coming together in public places to sing the song, reflecting a shared feeling of patriotism.
The event marks the beginning of a year-long celebration from November 7, 2025 to November 7, 2026, with cultural and educational programs planned across India to honor the timeless creation that has inspired generations.
