Kolkata: A total of 2.10 crore enumeration forms have been distributed among the voters of West Bengal in the first three days of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
ECI launched SIR in the state on Tuesday and 2.10 crore enumeration forms were distributed till 8 pm on Thursday.
Sources in the Chief Electoral Office (CEO) of West Bengal said the progress of the SIR in the state with regard to distribution of counting forms is quite satisfactory compared to the 11 other states where the election exercise is underway.
According to the voter list till October 27, the total number of voters in West Bengal is 7,66,37,529.
Voters whose names or their parents’ names were included in the voter list in 2002, the last time SIR was conducted in West Bengal, will need to include the details in the enumeration form and submit it.
These voters will not have to submit any other supporting document to retain their name in the voter list. Earlier, SIR in West Bengal was conducted in 2002.
Voters whose names were not in the 2002 list or their parents will have to submit any one of the 11 documents specified by the commission to retain their name in the voter list.
Meanwhile, the three-member ECI central team, comprising Deputy Election Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti, Deputy Secretary Abhinav Agarwal and Principal Secretary SB Joshi, who is currently on a three-day visit to West Bengal to review the progress of the ongoing SIR, will hold an important meeting with district-level election officials in North Bengal’s Cooch Behar district later in the day.
