Hyderabad, Nov 6 (IANS) The campaign for the by-election in Telangana’s Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency has reached its peak with key contestants Congress, BRS and BJP making all-out efforts to ensure the victory of their candidates.
Only three days are left for the election campaign to end and top leaders of all three parties are going door-to-door to woo voters.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy himself is leading the ruling party’s campaign by addressing street meetings and organizing road shows, while about a dozen ministers are participating in door-to-door campaigning.
Leaders of Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are also making every possible effort. They are addressing rallies and holding road shows to seek support for their respective candidates.
The BRS campaign is being led by party working president KT Rama Rao, who is supported by several prominent party leaders.
Union Minister Mr. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, state BJP chief Ramachander Rao and party MPs and MLAs are waging a hectic campaign.
While addressing election rallies, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is accusing BRS and BJP of tacit consent. He is claiming that BJP is supporting BRS in the by-elections.
Highlighting the welfare schemes being implemented by his government, Revanth Reddy has been hitting out at BRS for the lack of development in Jubilee Hills during its 10-year rule.
On the other hand, BRS is highlighting the development work done in Hyderabad during its rule.
Both BRS and BJP have been targeting Congress over unfulfilled promises and lack of development during the last two years.
There is likely to be a triangular contest in the constituency, which is one of the assembly constituencies falling under the Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency, which is represented by Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy does.
The by-election has become necessary due to the demise of sitting BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath in June this year. BRS has fielded his wife Maganti Sunita in the by-election.
The Congress party has fielded Naveen Yadav, who has previously contested the elections as an All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) candidate. The party led by Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has announced its support to the Congress candidate.
BJP has once again given ticket to Lankala Deepak Reddy, who stood third in the 2023 elections.
Gopinath had scored a hat-trick in 2023 by defeating his nearest rival Mohammed Azharuddin of Congress by over 16,000 votes.
Although the former Indian cricket captain was keen to contest from his home constituency once again, the Congress leadership pacified him by deciding to nominate him for the Legislative Council.
Last week, Azharuddin was included in the Telangana cabinet. He has been given the Minority Welfare and Public Enterprises department.
He is among the ministers who are actively campaigning for the Congress candidate.
A total of 58 candidates are in the fray, but the main contest is between three parties.
According to Hyderabad District Returning Officer RV Karnan, there are a total of 4,01,365 voters in the constituency – 2,08,561 men and 1,92,779 women.
Since 58 candidates are in the fray, four ballot units and one VVPAT will be used at each polling station.
