Voting began at 7 am and will continue till 5 pm.
In this phase, 3.75 crore voters will decide the electoral fate of 1,314 candidates, including top leaders like India Bloc’s chief ministerial face Tejashwi Yadav and BJP’s deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary.

The RJD candidate is aiming to score a hat-trick on the Raghopur seat, while his chief rival, BJP’s Satish Kumar, had defeated his mother Rabri Devi while contesting on the JD(U) symbol in 2010.
Chaudhary, who is enjoying his second consecutive term in the Legislative Council, is contesting a direct election from Tarapur after almost a decade. The former state BJP president faces a tough challenge from RJD’s Arun Kumar Sah, who lost the seat by a margin of around 5,000 votes in 2020.
The electoral fate of Vijay Kumar Sinha, the second deputy CM in the Nitish Kumar government, will also be decided in the first phase of voting.
Sinha is expected to retain Lakhisarai for the fourth consecutive time, overcoming such a tough challenge provided by Congress’s Amresh Kumar and Jan Suraj Party’s Suraj Kumar.
Voting will take place at 45,341 polling stations, the majority of which (36,733) fall in rural areas.
