Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is out on the campaign trail for the second phase of Bihar elections, highlighted the double-engine government’s roadmap for the state’s development, which also includes setting up semiconductor units, and noted the ‘groundwork’ being done over the years to facilitate it. Addressing his second public rally in Bhagalpur on Thursday, PM Modi attacked the RJD-Congress alliance for ‘looting’ the wealth of the state and its residents and prioritizing their own welfare above the people. PM Modi said the Nitish government has provided assistance of Rs 10,000 each to over 1.40 crore women to open their own businesses, but if the grand alliance had been in power, they would have stolen this money and kept it in their coffers. He said the NDA government has created Jeevika Didi, Lakhpati Didi and connected them to the banking mainstream by opening Jan Dhan accounts and said no such scheme was launched during their decades-long rule. He said, “Narendra Modi opened Jan Dhan accounts for his sisters. Nitish ji’s government is directly depositing Rs 10,000 in the accounts of sisters to start new employment. Till now this money has reached the accounts of 1.40 crore sisters.” He said, “Imagine that if the most corrupt family of Bihar and the most corrupt family of the country, which is out on bail, had been in power, this money would not have gone into the sisters’ accounts, it would have gone into the coffers of Congress and RJD leaders.” Reiterating the Congress’s allegation of snatching the Chief Minister’s post, the Prime Minister said there was an ugly fight within the Grand Alliance and it is out in the open. He said, “You see RJD posters everywhere in the city, but have you seen any poster of Congress’s ‘naamdaar’ – a reference to Rahul Gandhi. Even if there is one, you will not find it unless you scan through a magnifying glass. Similarly, in Congress rallies, they avoid taking the names of RJD leaders.” Further attacking the ‘opportunistic’ alliance, the PM said that those who are fighting against each other for their political interests can never do any good to Bihar. He also accused RJD and Congress of dividing the people of Bihar on caste and religious lines. He said, “Congress can never wash its hands of the Bhagalpur massacre and this stain will remain on the party like the Sikh massacre. It is because of their policies that the people of Bihar were forced to migrate to other states.” –IANS
