Kolkata, Nov 6 (IANS) A purported video has gone viral in which Trinamool Congress MLA Asima Patra is seen allegedly asking people to tie to trees those BJP leaders who dare to remove people’s names from the voter list. However, IANS could not independently verify the content of the viral video and cannot guarantee its authenticity.
In a video taken on Wednesday during a protest rally against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of West Bengal’s electoral rolls at Chinsurah in Hooghly district, Trinamool’s Dhaniakhali MLA was reportedly heard saying, “Those from BJP who want to drop names of voters in Chinsurah area should be tied to trees on sight. There is no concession for them.”
While delivering a speech there, the Dhaniakhali MLA reportedly said, “I will tell every leader of Chinsurah that if you see BJP people in the town block, you tie those leaders to trees as soon as you see them. They want to exclude the names of the voters of Chinsurah. They want to exclude the names of the people of Bengal.”
Reacting to the alleged threat issued by the Trinamool MLA, BJP state committee member Swapan Pal claimed, “Dhaniakhali MLAs are ordering BJP leaders to be tied to trees. So have they stolen the democracy of West Bengal? There is Taliban rule in West Bengal. SIR is being conducted in 12 states apart from West Bengal on the orders of the Election Commission. There is no problem in any other state. But Trinamool is facing all the problems in West Bengal.” It is falling.
“In Khanakul, I saw Trinamool workers going with party flags along with booth-level officials. But when BJP workers are going to the areas, they are being chased away. Do they mean that only TMC will rule in West Bengal?”
This is not the first time that Trinamool Congress leaders have issued such threats to BJP leaders for trying to remove people’s names from the voter list.
Party’s All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee had also asked people to teach BJP leaders a lesson if they make any attempt to remove names of genuine citizens from the voter list.
