Lexicographers at Collins Dictionary, who carefully monitor their corpus of 24 billion words drawing from a variety of media and social platforms, selected the word after seeing a significant increase in its usage since February.
This annual selection aims to reflect the ever-evolving landscape of our language.
The phrase was coined by former director Andrzej Karpathy. Aye A founding engineer at Tesla and at OpenAI, who described how AI can empower individuals to create new applications while “forgetting that code even exists”.

The term went viral on social media and is often used to express people’s frustration and distrust towards AI chatbots and platforms.

And “coolcation”, a vacation to a place with a cold climate, add to the list, along with “taskmasking”, the act of giving the false impression that one is productive in the workplace.
Micro-retirement, described as a break between periods of employment to pursue personal interests, is also included.
