Hyderabad, Nov 5 (IANS) Telangana Chief Minister A, who is facing attack from opposition parties and Muslim groups for allegedly saying that Muslims exist because of the Congress party. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday claimed that his remarks have been distorted.
The Chief Minister also said that he has been a secular leader since he entered politics.
His clarification came on Wednesday night during a speech at an election rally in the Jubilee Hills assembly constituency, where by-elections are scheduled on November 11.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Muslim groups had on Tuesday condemned Revanth Reddy’s comments made during the election campaign.
Muslim groups had demanded an apology, terming the alleged comment that “if there is Congress then there is a Muslim, if there is no Congress then you are nothing” as derogatory.
In the election rally on Wednesday, the Chief Minister claimed that the Congress governments gave many opportunities to the minorities.
He said, “It is Congress which has given big posts to minorities. Congress means Muslims and Muslims means Congress. Hindus and Muslims are all equal in our government. We do not discriminate.”
Stating that he won the Kodangal Assembly seat thrice with the support of minorities, he claimed that minorities did not face any problem during the 20 months of Congress rule in the state.
Reiterating that Congress is committed to the welfare of Muslims, he alleged that BRS is betraying Muslims. He reiterated that BRS will soon merge with BJP.
The Chief Minister slammed Union Minister G. for opposing Azharuddin’s inclusion in the state cabinet. Criticized Kishan Reddy.
“Why is Kishan Reddy opposing Azharuddin? Is this Kishan Reddy’s fiefdom? What problem does he have if a minority leader is given a ministerial post?”. he asked.
Revanth Reddy questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not allowing the arrest of former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) in the Kaleshwaram scam and BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) in the Formula E race scam.
“The Modi government is harassing political rivals by conducting IT, CBI and ED raids and the same government is not allowing action against BRS leaders involved in scams,” the Chief Minister alleged.
He said that when the state government demanded a CBI inquiry against KCR for looting Rs 1 lakh crore in the Kaleshwaram project, the Prime Minister did not pay any attention. The Governor also did not allow the arrest of KTR in the Formula E race case.
Accusing former CM KCR and PM Modi of being on one side, the Chief Minister reminded that KCR supported Modi at every opportunity. He also claimed that BJP is supporting BRS in Jubilee Hills by-election.
