Raipur, Nov 5 (IANS) In a new wave of anti-Maoist operations, security forces in Chhattisgarh have reportedly killed three Maoist rebels during an ongoing encounter in the dense forests of Bijapur district.

Police sources said the clash took place on Wednesday in Tarlaguda area near the Telangana border, where joint teams of police and paramilitary forces were conducting search operations.

Although official confirmation is awaited, sources say that bodies of three Maoists have been recovered from the spot and weapons have been seized.

The encounter is said to be taking place in the forested area between Annaram and Marimalla villages, which is known for Maoist activity and difficult terrain.

Police teams are deployed in the forest and the operation was active even till Wednesday evening.

Intelligence inputs had earlier indicated movement of armed cadres in the area, following which there was a prompt response from the District Reserve Guard and Special Task Force units.

A statement was issued in the afternoon that “Multiple contingents of security forces are actively engaged in the operation in Bijapur area. At present, the situation during the operation is completely normal. Any information regarding significant outcome related to the operation will be provided in due course.”

Initial reports indicate that the Maoists may be linked to local area committees operating along the interstate border.

The seizure of arms and ammunition suggests the presence of a well-armed group, possibly tasked with disrupting ongoing development efforts in the area.

The incident comes amid anti-insurgency efforts by both the state and central governments.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently reiterated the Centre’s commitment to eliminate Maoism from India by March 2026.

Since the formation of the BJP government in Chhattisgarh in January 2024, more than 2,100 Maoists have surrendered, 1,785 have been arrested, and 477 have been killed in various operations.

The Chhattisgarh government is pursuing its dual strategy – rehabilitation as well as military pressure.

Programs like ‘Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy 2025’ and ‘Niyad Nela Nar Yojana’ aim to reintegrate former Maoists into the mainstream of society by offering them livelihood support and social reintegration.

As the search operation continues in the rugged terrain of Bijapur, officials are on alert but are hopeful that the encounter will yield more successes.
