Bengaluru, November 4 (IANS) Karnataka Home Minister G. Commenting on the ‘leadership dispute’ on Tuesday, Parameshwara underlined that the final decision rests with the Congress high command.
Speaking to reporters here, Parameshwara said, “I have always said that the final decision lies with the high command. Congress party members respect the decisions of the high command.”
“Although this has been said many times, this issue is raised again and again. The Congress high command maintains discipline – whatever decision is taken there will be followed. Anyone who fails to follow it will face disciplinary action. This has been the tradition since the beginning,” he said.
Parameshwara also defended Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s recent comments, saying, “The Chief Minister has said that he will abide by the decision of the high command – that statement is correct. He has said this earlier also, and he is saying the same now.”
On media queries regarding the visit of ruling Congress leaders to Delhi, he said, “I don’t know who is going. Right now I have no plans to go to Delhi. If necessary, I will go.”
Asked whether transfers have come to a halt due to senior ministers not being given cabinet posts, he said, “Transfers are made in departments on a need-based basis. Except the police department, transfers have been stopped in all other departments. There is no fixed time limit for police transfers – they happen continuously on need-based basis.”
Asked whether senior ministers would be dropped from the Cabinet, he said, “It is not my job to decide. It is a matter left to the discretion of the Chief Minister and the high command.”
Parameshwara also said he has directed the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner to submit a detailed report regarding allegations that a domestic help was illegally detained and assaulted by officials at the Varthur police station.
He said that the incident has come to his notice. He said, “I have sought a report from the Police Commissioner. Once the report is received, strict action will be taken against the officers found guilty.”
Regarding the protest by sugarcane farmers in Bagalkot, he said, “I have spoken to Sugar Minister Shivanand Patil. I have instructed him to resolve this issue as soon as possible by fixing and regulating sugarcane prices. The minister from that area will hold a meeting with sugar mill representatives to resolve this issue.”
“During yesterday’s protest, a farmer attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison, but was saved by our police. We will ensure that such incidents do not happen in future.”
