New Delhi, Nov 4 (IANS) The Delhi Assembly will hold a special event on November 7 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the iconic national song “Vande Mataram”, written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1875.
On this historic occasion, Assembly Speaker Vijendra Gupta will unveil a commemorative plaque celebrating this milestone, an official statement said.
The event will also feature a cultural program presented by the artists of Sahitya Kala Parishad, which will highlight the spirit of patriotism and unity inspired by “Vande Mataram”.
To mark the celebration, the Delhi Legislative Assembly building will be illuminated in the colors of the national flag in the evening.
Gupta said, “‘Vande Mataram’ is not just a song – it is the soul of India’s freedom movement and a timeless ode to our motherland.”
He said, “The Delhi Assembly is proud to honor 150 years of this national treasure, which inspires unity, sacrifice and patriotism among all Indians. By commemorating this historical milestone, we reaffirm our commitment to the ideals and spirit that have shaped our country.”
He said, “Vande Mataram”, meaning “I bow to you, Mother”, holds an immortal place in the cultural and historical journey of India.
Written during the period of national awakening, this song became the soul of India’s freedom struggle, instilling a deep sense of pride, unity and dedication towards the motherland. Its words are timeless, he said, reminding every Indian of the beauty, strength and spiritual essence of the nation.
The statement said that this milestone not only marks 150 years since the song was written, but also symbolizes the enduring relevance of its message in modern India.
By celebrating this anniversary, the Delhi Legislative Assembly pays tribute to the eternal legacy of this song and its role in shaping India’s national identity.
Gupta said, the planned celebrations reflect the resolve of the Delhi Assembly to uphold and promote the values of national pride, cultural heritage and unity in diversity.
He said, through this programme, the Assembly pays tribute to the song that has inspired generations to celebrate and serve India with devotion and honour.
