New Delhi, Nov 4 (IANS) A 40-member delegation of Sri Lankan civil servants on Tuesday visited the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to share knowledge on the topic “Clean City – Better Future”.
The visit was a part of the ongoing 13th Capacity Building Program on Urban Transformation for Sri Lankan Civil Servants, which is being held in New Delhi from 27 October to 7 November.
The event was organized by NDMC in collaboration with National Center for Good Governance.
During the session, NDMC Chairman Keshav Chandra made a presentation highlighting the civic agency’s integrated approach to sustainable urban development and modern civic governance.
He showcased the key initiatives that have made New Delhi one of the cleanest, greenest and most citizen-friendly capital cities of the country.
Senior officials of NDMC including Financial Advisor-cum-Secretary, Officer on Special Duty (Personnel/Education), Chief Engineer (Civil & Electrical), Chief Architect, Health Medical Officer and Director (Horticulture) and Director (Training) were present during the interaction and shared insights on sector-specific initiatives and innovations.
A presentation on cleanliness initiatives highlights mechanized sanitation, night cleaning operations, scientific solid waste management, separation at source and RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) model.
The medical officer briefed the delegation about the development of Anupam colonies based on community-driven best practices, extensive gardening and green-cover expansion efforts, installation of mist sprayers on electric poles to combat air pollution and scientific disposal of e-waste.
Emphasizing NDMC’s commitment towards smart governance, GS Aggarwal, in-charge of Integrated Command and Control Centre, through a video presentation explained how the Council has transformed public service delivery through robust e-Governance and m-Governance systems.
With over 49 services available online and the NDMC, 311 mobile app enabling seamless citizen engagement, the council has created a transparent, accountable and efficient digital ecosystem for residents and stakeholders, Agarwal said.
The Sri Lankan delegation appreciated the exemplary urban management model of NDMC and explored ways to adopt similar practices in urban development strategies.
The exchange strengthened NDMC’s commitment towards knowledge sharing and international collaboration in advancing the global agenda of clean, green and sustainable cities.
