New Delhi, Nov 4 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity is expected to have a significant impact on the Bihar assembly election results as 63 per cent of respondents intend to vote for him at face value, an IANS-Matrix opinion poll found on Tuesday.
The IANS-Matrix opinion poll, conducted between October 10 and November 3 with a sample size of 73,287, revealed that 63 per cent voters see PM Modi’s popularity as a huge influencing factor ahead of voting on November 6 and 11.
As little as 9 percent of respondents are undecided about the possible impact of PM Modi’s popularity on the assembly elections. At the same time, 8 percent of the respondents said that their popularity will have some impact on the results.
According to the opinion poll, 19 percent respondents said that PM Modi’s popularity will not have any impact on Bihar elections. The margin of error is 3 percent.
Nearly half the respondents to the opinion poll, including 15,390 first-time voters, supported Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s continuation in office after the elections, the results of which will be declared on November 14.
A total of 46 respondents in the IANS-Matrix opinion poll said that Janata Dal (United)’s Nitish Kumar is their first choice for the post of Chief Minister of Bihar. Grand alliance’s chief ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav is the choice of 15 percent of the respondents.
Nitish Kumar’s popularity as CM face is also linked to voters’ satisfaction with his performance. As many as 44 per cent of respondents said they were “very satisfied” with the work of the Nitish Kumar-led government, and 38 per cent said they were “satisfied” with the governance’s performance.
Voting will be held on a total of 121 assembly seats in the first phase and 122 seats in the second phase. The tenure of the current 243-member assembly ends on November 22, 2025. 2,616 candidates are in the fray for both the phases.
There are 7.43 crore registered voters in Bihar, which includes 3.92 crore males and 3.5 crore females. The elections will be conducted at 90,712 polling stations.
