Bengaluru, Nov 4 (IANS) A female domestic help has been arrested for killing a pet dog inside the lift of an apartment building in Bengaluru.

The accused, named Pushpalatha, allegedly killed the puppy by throwing it on the floor inside the lift.

After CCTV footage of Pushpalatha beating the pet surfaced, the dead pet’s owner Rashi Pujari lodged a police complaint against the maid involved in the act.

CCTV footage showed Pushpalatha swinging and repeatedly throwing the small dog to the floor by the leash – an act of shocking cruelty.

After killing the dog, Pushpalata fabricated a story, claiming that the puppy had accidentally fallen while coming out of the lift. However, when the pet owner questioned the security personnel about the incident, their response raised suspicion. On checking the CCTV footage, the brutal act came to light.

According to preliminary investigation, the accused committed this cruel act while walking the dog. The incident took place on October 31 but came to light on Monday.

Pushpalatha had been working at Pujari’s house for more than a month as a caretaker for his pet dog ‘Goofy’.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Rashi said, “The accused was being given a monthly salary of Rs 25,000. But suddenly he killed the pet. I cannot understand why he did this. The accused has never argued or quarreled with me on anything recently.”

Rashi said, “There was absolutely no issue. The pet never bit anyone or caused any trouble. He has no explanation – he killed the dog for no reason. There is no answer from his side.”

“I was very close to my pet. I had been taking care of the puppy for four years. I had hired her specifically to take care of the puppy and feed it because I had to go to college. On the day of the incident, she said she was taking the dog out, and within a minute, she came back saying that the pet was not awake. I thought maybe it had hurt its leg. When I ran to look, the pet’s tongue was out and it was lying still. Was,” he recalled.

Rashi said, “I did not suspect the caretaker at that time. We went to Kengeri to perform the last rites of the pet. The accused remained normal and unaffected the entire time. That evening, I started getting suspicious of him and questioned the security staff. They said the incident might have happened inside or outside the lift. After examining the CCTV footage, we found out what actually happened.”

She added, “The caretaker was very close to us. She was well behaved and I never had the slightest suspicion. I was shocked to see how she swung and threw the dog on the floor of the lift.”
