New Delhi, Nov 4 (IANS) In a major breakthrough against organized crime, Delhi Police has arrested two active members of the Kala Jathedi-Om Prakash (Kala) gang, who were allegedly in the process of committing crimes.
Both were arrested from Dwarka, Delhi. Dwarka’s Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) recovered two country-made pistols and live cartridges from their possession, officials said on Tuesday.
According to a statement issued by the Dwarka district police, the accused have been identified as Vinod alias Bona (27) and Dhruv (19), residents of Jharoda Kalan village in Delhi. Police said the arrests were made following a specific intelligence input which indicated that a close associate of gangster Om Prakash alias Kala, was roaming in the area with illegal weapons.
DCP Dwarka Ankit Singh, who is leading a campaign under the slogan ‘No Guns, No Gangs’ to curb organized crime in the district, said, “Acting promptly on a tip-off, a team of AATS Dwarka stopped the suspects in Jharoda village and recovered a sophisticated pistol and a country-made pistol with live cartridges.”
Police said both the men are habitual criminals. Vinod alias Bona faces several cases under the Arms Act and was recently released from jail. Dhruv, who was earlier involved in two criminal cases, was reportedly trying to rejoin the gang. Investigators said the two accused were acting on the instructions of Om Prakash alias Kala, who is currently in judicial custody under MCOCA, and his brother Amit alias Bagge.
During interrogation, the accused confessed that they were planning to eliminate a person from their village due to mutual enmity. He claimed that he had joined the gang through Amit alias Bagge about a year ago and got involved in criminal activities again after his release from jail.
Police have registered a case under section 25/54/59 of the Arms Act, FIR number 352/25, dated October 28, at Baba Haridas Nagar police station. The recovered weapons and cartridges have been seized for forensic examination.
DCP Ankit Singh said in the press release, “The arrest has put a stop to a potentially violent crime. Dwarka Police is committed to maintaining law and order and ensuring that no illegal firearms or gang activities will be tolerated.”
Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the weapons and identify other gang associates.
