Of these, elections will be held in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and West Bengal in 2026.
West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya told ANI, ‘The people of West Bengal want SIR (voter list) to be conducted in the state and it will be done.’
The SIR exercise will continue till December 4. The Election Commission will release the draft voter list on December 9 and the final voter list will be published on February 7.
“The second phase will be conducted in 12 states and union territories. The SIR will ensure that no eligible voter is left out and no ineligible voter is included in the voting list,” Kumar said at a press conference.
“The second phase of SIR will cover 51 crore voters. While the counting process will begin on November 4, the draft roll will be published on December 9 and the final voter list on February 7,” he said.
The final SIR in the states will serve as the cut-off date. The last SIR of the voter list in most states was between 2002 and 2004.
