Indore, November 3 (IANS) A private bus loaded with passengers veered off the road and fell into a 20-feet deep gorge near Mhow (renamed Ambedkar Nagar) in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district, killing two women and injuring several others. Police officials gave this information.

The accident occurred near Bherughat in Simrol village area, which is a hilly area susceptible to such accidents.

According to police and officials, there were about 30 passengers in the bus.

Eyewitnesses said that the bus lost control at a sharp turn and fell into a ravine.

Quick-thinking passers-by and residents of nearby Simrol village swung into action and rushed to the spot to rescue the passengers trapped in the debris.

Using ropes and bare hands, they managed to rescue many people before emergency teams arrived.

Speaking to IANS, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Rakesh Parmar, who is monitoring the response, confirmed that rescue operations are in full swing at the Simrol accident site.

“Two women died at the scene, their identities have not yet been confirmed, teams are working to reach all passengers and provide immediate medical assistance.”

The injured, suffering from fractures, head injuries and concussions, were taken to nearby hospitals in Mhow and Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital in Indore.

Doctors have not yet said how serious the cases are, with ambulances carrying victims amid heavy traffic disruption on the route.

Initial investigation points to possible overspeeding or mechanical failure, although the driver is among the survivors and is being questioned.

The bus was coming from the nearby Omkareshwar town, which was filled with daily commuters and locals.

ALSO READ  In Bageshwar, a drunken youth caused trouble, opened a gas bottle and set fire to a house, resulting in 11 people being burned.

As rescue efforts continue till Monday evening, the death toll may rise.

“At present only two bodies have been recovered,” the officer said.

Families anxiously gather at hospitals hoping for updates about loved ones.

The accident is a reminder of the dangers on these winding roads, calling for urgent upgrades.

The incident highlights ongoing road safety concerns in the region’s ghats, where poor road conditions and foggy conditions often lead to deaths.
