Dehradun, November 3 (IANS) President Draupadi Murmu addressed a special session of the Uttarakhand Assembly on Monday to mark the conclusion of the state’s silver jubilee. The state was officially separated from Uttar Pradesh on November 9, 2020.
Addressing the Assembly, Speaker Murmu said that it is a key pillar of the parliamentary system while MLAs act as an important link between the public and the government. He also urged the MPs to sustain the development of the state while preserving the gifts of nature.
Describing MLAs as the most important link between the government and the public, he called upon them to be actively engaged in solving public problems and working for the welfare of the people and emphasized that the bond and trust between the two should remain unbreakable under all circumstances.
Advising the MLAs, he said that public welfare requires complete dedication and hence, such work goes beyond party politics.
He urged them to work with special sensitivity for the welfare and development of the deprived sections of the society.
The President also praised the Uttarakhand government for enacting and implementing a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in line with the Constitution, a long-standing promise of the ruling BJP.
He said that it is a matter of happiness that more than 550 bills have been passed in the Uttarakhand Assembly, including the Uttarakhand Lokayukta Bill, Uttarakhand Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms Bill and Anti-Counterfeiting Bill. He appreciated the MLAs for passing such bills inspired by transparency, ethics and social justice.
He further said, “Uttarakhand is blessed with unique natural wealth and beauty. The state should move forward on the path of development by preserving these gifts of nature.”
President Murmu praised the governments of Uttarakhand for achieving many achievements.
He said, “The state has made commendable progress in the areas of environment, energy, tourism, health care and education. There has also been progress in digital and physical connectivity and infrastructure development. As a result of comprehensive development efforts, Uttarakhand has improved on many parameters of human development indices.”
President Murmu further said that the youth of Uttarakhand have shown great enthusiasm in the last few years to serve the Indian Army and protect the motherland. He said that many public representatives of Uttarakhand have made important contributions in strengthening the democratic tradition of the country.
