Kolkata, Nov 3 (IANS) A 37-year-old woman was shot in the back by two bike-borne miscreants in south Kolkata suburb Haridevpur on Monday morning, sending panic among local residents and raising security concerns. The shooting took place in front of a club.
According to local sources, the woman has been identified as Moushumi Haldar, who was shot in the back by bike-riding miscreants.
The firing took place around 7 a.m. in front of a local club when Halder was walking.
According to local sources, two men riding a motorcycle opened fire at the woman before fleeing the scene. Medical sources confirmed that he was initially taken to MR Bangur Hospital and later shifted to SSKM Hospital due to his critical condition.
A senior Kolkata Police officer said, “The search is on for the miscreants who shot the woman in Haridevpur area. She has been admitted to the hospital for treatment. Investigation into the incident is underway.”
Initial police investigation revealed that the incident was caused by an old enmity, a theory confirmed by local sources. Hearing the sound of gunshots, the local people saved the victim.
Elaborating on the incident, a local resident said that he heard gunshots around 7 am. From his window he saw a woman lying on the road with a bullet in her back.
The woman’s son, who was nearby, ran to her and took her to MR Bangur Hospital with the help of local residents.
Doctors at SSKM Hospital later said that his condition was critical.
This brazen attack in broad daylight in a busy, crowded area has created widespread apprehension.
Residents have expressed concern over the increase in crime incidents in the southern suburbs of Kolkata.
Haridevpur police station officials are coordinating with the detective department of Kolkata Police to rapidly nab the criminals.
