Chandigarh, Nov 2 (IANS) Punjab Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Sunday announced that the state government is celebrating the 350th martyrdom birth anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur with full devotion and grandeur across Punjab.

As part of the commemoration, light and sound shows depicting the life and legacy of the ninth Sikh Guru will begin in various districts of the state on November 4.

The minister said the inaugural shows will be held on November 4 from 6 pm onwards at Lamini Stadium (Pathankot), Guru Gobind Singh Stadium (Jalandhar), Polo Ground (Patiala) and Sports Stadium Madhopur (Fatehgarh Sahib).

He said that all necessary arrangements have been completed for the smooth conduct of these shows, which will continue in all the districts till November 20.

Minister Sond further said that through these light and sound shows, the entire life journey, spiritual philosophy and supreme sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur – who stood for the protection of faith and righteousness – will be clearly portrayed. He said that the aim of this initiative is to introduce the young generation to the glorious history and teachings of the great Guru.

The Minister urged the devotees and families to attend these shows and watch the historical presentations which are being organized to honor the memory and teachings of the Guru.

He also mentioned that the series of programs dedicated to the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur had started on October 25 from the historic Gurudwara Sri Sis Ganj Sahib in New Delhi.

As part of the ongoing celebrations, the state government will also organize four Nagar Kirtans starting from Srinagar from November 19 to 22 to pay homage to the supreme martyrdom of the Guru.

Earlier, Minister Sond had announced that a large-scale tent city was being set up at Sri Anandpur Sahib to accommodate the devotees participating in the celebrations. To ensure proper accommodation facilities for the devotees, tent cities are being set up at three locations – Agampur, PSPCL Ground Mataur and Jhinjhari.

The Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department is spending about Rs 21.52 crore on the establishment of the tent city.

The minister said arrangements are being made to accommodate 10,000 to 12,000 devotees daily, including all necessary facilities to make their stay comfortable and hassle-free. He told that the tent city will remain operational from November 19 to November 30.
