JUjas dressed as a ghoulish wedding party, a live band performing Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra” and a am a doctor The star is dancing with the devil’s tail. This can only mean one thing – strictly come danceThe Halloween Week Special is back on our screens.

The annual festival never fails to deliver results. But rather than bring fear and dread, all the couples on Saturday night’s live show upped their game as the Blackpool Special went into touching distance.

And even though they may not have topped the leaderboard, one couple in particular ultimately proved themselves to be serious contenders – La Voix and Aljaž Skorjanec.

It’s fair to say that La Voix haven’t had the best start to the competition. But I think the routines and songs given to her can be blamed, at least partially, for that. In the first live show of September RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Immediately Chappelle proved his comedic talent with an American spontaneous set of Roan’s “Pink Pony Club”. The routine included a really fun skit in the middle as La Voix pushed Skorzenek out of the spotlight and took center stage.

In the weeks that followed, the producers have often relied on La Voix to provide much-needed lighter moments – but at a great cost. In the second week, her routine remained in the same rhythm as the first and the fourth week was nothing short of devastating, from a boxing-themed Cha Cha to Pat Benatar’s “Hit Me with Your Best Shot.”

Don’t get me wrong – The RuPaul’s Drag Race Star is hilarious and easily this year’s funniest strictly Competitors. And of course, there’s a place for comedy in the show.

La Voix’s running joke about Tess Daly’s outfit is well-crafted, silly, old-school comedy and her witty one-liners keep the audience laughing. Last week he caught everyone’s attention when he quipped about sending his CV to the BBC and on Saturday he brilliantly sent his CV moved forward a little By presenting one of Daly’s creations in front of the camera. I look forward to La Voix’s banter and banter, and I might even do a few dances, but she deserves to be taken seriously in the competition, too.

On Saturday, she beat her previous high score by an impressive seven points after a Beethoven’s 5th paso double that featured plenty of drama and serious skill. With the distracting comedic elements removed, La Voix proved itself as a genuine contender for the rest of the series. And, it seems, he proved something to himself.

“I got a little moment tonight, this is the second one right now,” he told the judges. “This is the most frightening place for me, this ballroom floor, but tonight I discovered for the first time what you guys feel, and how magical dancing can be.”

Turning to Aljaz, she said: “I know I’m not the best and I’d be lucky if I got above sixes and sevens, but from me to you, that was a 10.”

If La Voix keeps this up, maybe 10 won’t seem so unlikely after all.
