Srinagar, Nov 1 (IANS) The state investigation agency of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday said it has arrested the key operator in a narco-terrorism case in Srinagar city.
“SIA Kashmir today achieved a major breakthrough in the narco-terror case when a key operator was arrested from Bemina area of Srinagar city. The accused has been named Basharat Ali, son of Mohammad Sadiq, resident of Tad Karnah Kupwara, who was evading arrest for the last three years in case of SIA Kashmir’s FIR No. 19/2022,” SIA said in a statement.
The case pertains to the Pakistan-sponsored narco-terror module of Lashkar-e-Taiba, which was involved in cross-border smuggling of narcotics and weapons in the Karnah sector, with the proceeds from the sale of narcotics being used to sustain terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Basharat is the fourth declared fugitive to be arrested in this case, and the SIA is optimistic of uncovering more links to the case with his arrest,” the statement said. This year, SIA Kashmir has conducted several successful operations in its effort to eliminate the menace of narco-terrorism, resulting in the arrest of some key operatives of terrorist organisations, the statement said.
Security forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police are carrying out aggressive counter-terrorism operations against terrorists, their underground workers (OGWs) and supporters to destroy the entire ecosystem of terror. Drug smugglers, drug smugglers and people involved in hawala money racket are under investigation by security forces. It is believed that the money generated from these illegal activities is ultimately used to maintain terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
The revised strategy aims to take a coordinated, synergistic effort by the police and security forces to dismantle the terrorist ecosystem rather than targeting only gun-wielding terrorists.
