Patna: Due to the impact of Cyclone Montha, daily life as well as election campaigning in Bihar has been badly affected, with strong winds and rain continuing for the last three days.
As many as 23 election rallies were canceled due to bad weather on Friday, which prevented many prominent political leaders from flying their helicopters and is expected to continue on Saturday.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav, BJP president JP Nadda, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and actor-singer Pawan Singh, among others, had to cancel or postpone their election programs on Friday.
Some leaders addressed the public through mobile phones instead of physically attending their scheduled meetings.
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi’s rally in Saharsa on Saturday has been canceled and she went by road to address the election rally in Bachhwara assembly constituency.
Strong winds and heavy rains have also caused significant damage to kharif crops, especially paddy, across the state.
Farmers are concerned that standing crops could be severely affected during harvesting, affecting yields.
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain with thunderstorms and strong winds continuing in most of the districts on Saturday also.
Heavy rain alert has been issued in some parts of Araria, Kishanganj and Purnia.
Both maximum and minimum temperatures dropped in most cities on Saturday due to continuous rain. The highest maximum temperature was recorded in Banka at 27.4 degrees Celsius, while the lowest minimum temperature was recorded in Valmiki Nagar at 20.6 degrees Celsius.
The weather department said the weather is expected to improve from Sunday, with the maximum temperature likely to rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius in the next few days.
However, there is likely to be no significant change in the minimum temperature in the next five days, due to which there will be mild cold in the morning and evening.
There have been reports of waterlogging from many places, due to which traffic has been disrupted.
Power supply has also been affected in some areas, causing inconvenience to residents.
The administration has appealed to people to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
The weather office has advised to exercise caution until the weather clears. Clouds are likely to start clearing from November 2, after which the minimum temperature may drop further, which will increase the cold in the morning and evening.
