Chennai, November 1 (IANS) Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder Dr. S. Ramadoss on Saturday announced that the party’s unified district level working committee meetings would be held across Tamil Nadu, as tensions deepen between him and his son, party president Dr Anbumani Ramadoss.

In a statement, Dr Ramadoss said: “PMK’s Unified District Working Committee meetings will be held in all districts across Tamil Nadu. State-level coordinators have been appointed to monitor the sessions for each district. All office-bearers – including state, district, city, union, city and area office-bearers, workers and special invitees – will participate in their respective district meetings.”

He said the discussion would focus on strengthening the organisation, reviewing development activities and deciding on the next phase of PMK’s political work.

“These meetings will help us assess our progress and prepare for future political challenges,” he said.

However, the announcement comes at a time when internal divisions within the PMK’s first family have become increasingly visible.

The divide between Dr Ramadoss and Anbumani Ramadoss has widened over leadership style, decision making and alliance strategy for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. While Dr Ramadoss favors a traditional, cadre-driven structure rooted in representation of the Vanniyar community – the PMK’s main support base – his son is pushing for a more modern, development-oriented image to attract young and urban voters.

Adding another layer to the family dynamics, Dr. Ramdas has recently appointed his daughter Srikanti Parasuram as the working president of the party. His promotion to this senior position is seen as an important step to strengthen the founder’s influence within the organization and maintain balance within the top leadership.

Party insiders say the decision reflects Ramdas’ intention to take firm control of the PMK’s organizational machinery amid the growing father-son rift. Political observers believe that the district-level meetings convened under the direct supervision of Dr. Ramdas will not only deliberate on party matters but also serve as a show of strength by the experienced leader. The meetings are expected to reaffirm his authority over the PMK’s rank and file as the family-led party goes through an increasingly delicate internal power struggle.
