Srinagar, Oct 31 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said he will not comment until he reads the statement of Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha, who criticized Abdullah for giving excuses for his government’s poor performance.
When asked by journalists about the Lieutenant Governor’s statement, Abdullah said that he had not read Sinha’s statement.
The Chief Minister said, “First of all I would like to see the words that he has used, because if there is a difference between what he has said and what you are saying, then it will not be good if I say something wrong.”
However, he also said that if the LG had said what the media personnel were saying, he would “respond at the right time.”
Earlier, the LG had said that the elected government has adequate powers and should focus on issues related to the common man and should not pretend to grant statehood to hide low performance.
The Lieutenant Governor said Jammu and Kashmir’s lack of statehood cannot be used as an excuse for “under-performance” as the elected government has all the powers.
Addressing the Jammu and Kashmir UT Foundation Day celebrations at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Center (SKICC) in Srinagar, the LG said Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said in Parliament that first delimitation, then assembly elections and then restoration of statehood will be done at the appropriate time.
The Lieutenant Governor said, “But some people have some problems. When the assembly elections were held, it was clear that the elections were being held for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. They (elected government) cannot make an excuse that work cannot be done until the statehood is restored.”
The Lieutenant Governor said that the elected government has all the powers and added that people should not be misled on the pretext of lack of statehood.
