Major General Bharat Mehtani is the new Additional Director General of NCC Directorate

Chandigarh, Oct 31 (IANS) Major General Jagdeep Singh Cheema, Additional Director General, NCC Directorate (Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh) on Friday handed over the charge to Major General Bharat Mehtani after his retirement after 37 years of distinguished service.

During his tenure, Major General Cheema created a positive and cordial atmosphere in the office, inspiring his team to achieve exceptional results. His dedication and commitment to duty has been exemplary and the staff of the NCC Directorate thanked him for his leadership.

Major General Cheema, an alumnus of the National Defense Academy at Khadakwasla, has had a distinguished military career, including a stint as Defense Attache in the High Commission of India in Bangladesh and service in the United Nations Mission. He has also been the Colonel Commandant of the Artillery Regiment (Group-IV) with effect from August 1, 2024.

The new Additional Director General Major General Mehtani brings extensive experience to his new role, having commanded an Infantry Brigade and Division in the Western Sector and served in various capacities. For his distinguished service he has been awarded the GOC-in-Chief Commendation Card of Western Command.

The outgoing and incoming officials exchanged the traditional baton and warm greetings, symbolizing a smooth transition.

Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh NCC directorates had felicitated three NCC cadets and one Girl Cadet Instructor (GCI) for successfully climbing the world’s highest peak Mount Everest in June. GIC Anamika Chaudhary of No. 2 Punjab R&V Squadron, Bathinda; Under Officer Padma Namgal of No. 2 Chandigarh NCC Battalion; And Cadet Kritika Sharma of No. 1 Himachal Pradesh NCC Battalion in Solan was commended for displaying her courage, grit and determination.

Jahan Kukkal and Padam Namgel of No. 2 Chandigarh Battalion NCC had participated in a pre-Everest expedition to Mount Abi Gamin (7,335 m) and a winter training camp at Siachen (Base Camp), the world’s highest battlefield ground. Cadet Kukkal also successfully completed the expedition to Mount Kang Yatse II (6,250 m).
