Jaipur, Oct 31 (IANS) In a major anti-terrorism operation, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Rajasthan Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) detained three suspects from Jodhpur and Jalore districts on Friday morning. Preliminary investigation reveals that two of them are clerics associated with religious educational institutions and are suspected to have links with an international terrorist organisation.
According to sources, this operation was launched on the basis of reliable intelligence inputs received from the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
At around 5 am, joint teams of NIA, ATS and Intelligence Bureau (IB) conducted simultaneous raids in Chaukha and Pipar areas of Jodhpur and Sanchore in Jalore district.
Two suspects were detained, one each from Chaukha and Pipar, while another was caught in Sanchore.
Those detained include Ayub, a resident of Chaukha village, and a suspect picked up from Sanchore, who is reportedly associated with a religious organisation. During the raid, the agencies have seized several mobile phones, laptops and suspicious documents, which are now being examined.
The three suspects have been brought to Jodhpur for questioning, where multiple security and intelligence agencies are jointly interrogating them to determine the extent of their activities and connections.
Preliminary information suggests that the suspects may have been in contact with members of an Islamic organization operating outside India. Acting on these leads, the Central Government directed the agencies to take coordinated action.
Following the operation, local police have tightened security in suspected areas and issued instructions to prevent the spread of rumors or communal tension.
The NIA and ATS have not yet issued an official statement regarding the names of the detained people or the organizations involved, citing the sensitivity of the ongoing investigation. However, sources indicate that the arrests may lead to significant revelations about cross-border terror links and radical networks operating through religious and educational fronts in western Rajasthan.
More information is awaited.
