Jaipur, Oct 30 (IANS) A high-level 29-member delegation from the Ethiopian government visited Rajasthan on October 29 and 30 to gain insight into the community-based livelihood and women empowerment initiatives being implemented under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) in the state.
The delegation included 15 members of the Ethiopian government, three from the World Bank, seven from Micro-Save Consulting and four from the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM).
The objective of the visit was to understand the structure, implementation and outcomes of rural livelihood programs of Rajasthan run by Rajasthan Rural Livelihood Development Council (Rajivika).
On 29 October, the Ethiopian delegation visited various villages in Alwar district, where they interacted with Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Village Organizations (VOs) and Cluster-level Federations (CLFs) managed by women under the Rajivika framework.
The delegation observed the processes of SHG formation, inter-credit mechanisms and income-generating activities undertaken through Producer Groups (PGs) and Producer Enterprises (PEs).
Ethiopian officials appreciated the community-driven model and leadership demonstrated by SHG women. He appreciated the efforts made towards sustainable rural livelihoods and socio-economic empowerment of women.
On Thursday, the delegation visited the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) of Rajivika in Jaipur, where they were formally welcomed. During the session, District Project Managers presented detailed information on the ongoing programs and innovations of Rajivika.
Neha Giri, IAS, State Mission Director, Rajivika, gave a comprehensive presentation highlighting various rural development programs implemented in Rajasthan under the aegis of the Ministry of Rural Development.
He explained in detail about the synergy between various government schemes and the role of community-based institutions in promoting inclusive growth.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of the participating banks who apprised the delegation about the credit linkages and financial mechanisms provided to SHGs across the state.
Senior bankers from SLBC, SBI, PNB, RGB, BOI, ICICI and HDFC were present for detailed discussion related to improved financial inclusion.
The meeting, chaired by State Mission Director, IAS, Neha Giri, was attended by the high-level Ethiopian delegation and senior representatives of the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) as well as Project Directors (Administration) and State Project Managers of Rajivika.
The discussions during the meeting yielded valuable insights on Rajasthan’s models of rural livelihoods, community dynamics and women-led enterprise development.
