Patna, October 30 (IANS) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday addressed a huge public meeting in Khandbihari of Jamalpur assembly constituency in Munger district and appealed to vote in favor of the JDU candidate.

Addressing supporters, the Chief Minister launched a scathing attack on the Lalu Prasad Yadav family and accused them of promoting dynastic politics and neglecting the development of Bihar during their rule.

Nitish Kumar said that before 2005 there was no rule of law in Bihar.

He said, “People used to lock themselves in their homes after sunset. The education system was in disarray, roads were in bad shape and there was little electricity. After 2005, both rule of law and development returned to Bihar.”

Taking a dig at the opposition, Nitish commented, “When Lalu Prasad Yadav was out of power after seven years, he made his wife the chief minister – this is the height of dynastic politics. He also brought his sons into politics.”

Highlighting the achievements of his government, the Chief Minister said that 2.58 lakh teachers have been recruited through BPSC, while the recruitment process of 28,000 teachers is underway, taking the total number of teachers in Bihar to 5.2 lakh.

Speaking about healthcare, he said that since 2006, free medicines and treatment are being provided in government hospitals and 27 new medical colleges are being established across the state.

Nitish claimed that under the ‘Saat Nishchay Yojana’ (Seven Nishchay Scheme), 40 lakh people have already got employment and the government aims to provide jobs to one crore youth in the next five years.

On women empowerment, Nitish said 50% reservation for women in Panchayati Raj and urban local bodies and 35% participation in the police force has been ensured – the highest in the country.

He said, “The number of Jeevika Didis has now reached 1.40 crore.”

He also announced increasing the old age and disability pension to Rs 1,100 per month.

Nitish further said that since 2018, electricity has reached every house in Bihar and now 125 units of electricity is being given free to the consumers.

Emphasizing on Centre-state coordination, he said Bihar got adequate funds from the central government in the 2024 budget, and new schemes including the establishment of Makhana Board have been announced for 2025.

“The state and central governments are working together to accelerate the progress of Bihar,” he said.
