Amaravati, Oct 30 (IANS) Severe cyclone Month caused a loss of Rs 5,265 crore to Andhra Pradesh, according to preliminary estimates by the state government.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said at a press conference on Thursday that the Roads and Buildings Department alone has suffered a loss of Rs 2,079 crore.
The agriculture sector is estimated to have suffered a loss of Rs 829 crore while power and water resources have suffered a loss of Rs 207 crore.
The Chief Minister said that after a complete assessment of the damage, a report will be sent to the Central Government.
He claimed that the state government was able to reduce the damage caused by the cyclone with the help of technology and with preparation and advance planning.
“We assessed the cyclone’s situation based on satellite images. We assessed the intensity of rain and winds and issued warnings and took action from time to time,” he said.
Saying that all government departments worked in coordination, the Chief Minister claimed that normalcy was largely restored on the very first day.
He said that after the cyclone crossed the coast near Antarvedi, there was heavy rain in the state.
The Chief Minister said, “Cyclones and rains cannot be stopped, but vigilance and prompt action are likely to reduce the loss of life and property. We were able to minimize the damage by using technology in all areas affected by the cyclone. We conducted periodic reviews on the cyclone. We assessed where the flow would be large in view of heavy rains and gave advance warning.”
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said the state government analyzed information through the data lake in real time and took quick decisions.
He said state ministers monitored the situation at the field level, while Education, IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh and Home Minister Wangalapudi Anitha monitored the situation from the Real Time Governance Society to minimize the severity of damage caused by the cyclone.
He said that while the state government is using technology to ensure that people do not face problems, some people are posting fake posts.
He commented, It seems like they don’t want to make things easy for people.
He praised government officials and local departments for prompt and coordinated relief efforts.
Reviewing the relief operations, CM Naidu appreciated the dedication and efficiency displayed by the staff at all levels.
The Chief Minister said, “I am very happy. For the first time in my life, I have seen such prompt, enthusiastic and committed work of everyone.”
Despite heavy rains and massive tree fall, road clearing and restoration work began immediately, he said.
Chief Minister Naidu credited village secretariat staff and line departments for their “amazing teamwork”, saying, “Earlier, it would take four to seven days to respond, but this time, the roads were cleared quickly.”
The Chief Minister also highlighted improvements in the management of relief camps, especially for vulnerable groups.
He said, “In previous years, I saw that pregnant women faced a lot of trouble during such situations. But this time, everything was handled perfectly and no pregnant woman faced any inconvenience.”
CM Naidu lauded the seamless coordination between various departments, saying this ensured timely relief, restored connectivity and reduced hardship for people in cyclone-affected areas.
He described the collective effort as a reflection of the administration’s commitment to public service and disaster preparedness.
