East Asda boss roger burnley to join the board of Mark , wig,
He will become a non-executive director of the high street giant from December 1, the company told shareholders on Thursday.
The retail giant was boss of rival Asda from 2017 to 2021, when he left the business following its £6.8bn takeover by the Issa brothers and TDR Capital.
Before moving to Asda he was retail operations director at Sainsbury’s and is currently a non-executive director at Pets at Home.
Mr Burnley will become the latest supermarket heavyweight to join the business after former Sainsbury’s boss Justin King stepped down earlier this year.
Mr. King left the board in September after nearly six years.
The appointment follows a tumultuous year for Marks & Spencer, which suffered a major cyber attack that forced it to halt online sales for almost six weeks.
It said the company suffered a loss of around £300 million from the attack.
Mr Burnley said: “M&S is a much-loved brand that I have always admired for setting the standards in UK retail, and it is a privilege to join such a board.
“Much progress has been made through reshaping the growth strategy, but there is still plenty of opportunity, and I look forward to supporting the leadership team to take advantage of it in the years to come.”
