New Delhi, Oct 30 (IANS) Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday inaugurated the ‘National Farmer Producer Organisation’ (FPO) Conclave 2025 in Delhi, and announced that the government will soon bring in a Seed Act to ensure high quality seeds to farmers.
He said that strict action is being taken against fake seeds and pesticides. Chouhan urged the FPOs and participating institutions to transform farmers into entrepreneurs and traders to ensure that benefits reach the producers directly, bypassing the middlemen.
Expressing concern over price disparity, Chouhan said farmers often do not get fair prices for their produce, while consumers pay more. Calling upon farmers to move towards value addition, he said, “This gap should be reduced.”
The Union Minister said, “Farmers should not only remain productive but should become entrepreneurs through agriculture. Processing and value addition will increase their income.”
He stressed the need to promote integrated farming and allied activities to increase the income of farmers.
Chouhan appealed to the FPOs to increase turnover within a year, expand membership and enhance credibility and quality to ensure maximum benefits to member farmers.
A total of 267 FPOs displayed cereals, pulses, oilseeds, fruits, vegetables, organic, processed and traditional products in the exhibition organized at NCDC premises.
More than 500 progressive farmers, FPOs, implementing agencies and cluster-based trade organizations from 24 states and 140 districts participated in the conference.
The event featured several technical sessions and panel discussions on topics including oilseed production, water use efficiency, natural farming, agricultural infrastructure funds, honey production, digital marketing, Agmark certification and seed production.
A dedicated platform was created for interaction between FPOs, farmers, buyers and sellers, paving the way for new market opportunities for rural entrepreneurs.
