Bihar Elections 2025: Congress-RJD are insulting ‘Chhathi Maiya’, people will never forgive them: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (October 30) accused the opposition Congress-RJD alliance in Bihar of insulting ‘Chhathi Maiya’, the “problem over Ram temple in Ayodhya” and “protecting infiltrators” for vote bank and appeasement politics.

He made the comments at back-to-back rallies in Muzaffarpur and Chhapra cities, a day after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that Modi had tried to stage a “drama” by planning to take a dip in the Yamuna on the occasion of Chhath Puja, but it was stopped after it was revealed that a puddle was created with clean water as the river was dirty.

The Prime Minister urged the people of the state to repose confidence in the “Narendra-Nitish” alliance, apparently a reference to the JD(U) president, who has been the longest-serving chief minister of Bihar.

“This is my first visit to Bihar after Chhath Puja, which is now famous across the world. This festival is not only for devotion but also for equality, which is why my government is trying to get a UNESCO heritage tag for this festival,” he said.

Without naming any leader, he said, “I listen to Chhath songs while travelling. Once I got emotional listening to one of these songs sung by a girl from Nagaland. But when this son of yours is busy ensuring that Chhath gets its due respect, the Congress-RJD people are disrespecting this festival and calling it a drama, a gimmick.”

Gandhi had alleged that the PM would “do anything, even dance, for votes”.

Modi said, “See how low these people can stoop while seeking votes. This is an insult to the Chhath festival which Bihar will not forget for centuries.”

He said, “Look at the contempt these people have for the people of Bihar. One of their leaders, when he was the CM of Punjab, had announced in a public rally that Biharis should be driven out. And the daughter of a big Congress family, who is now sitting in Parliament, kept giggling and clapping.”

The reference was to an incident involving former Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

In an apparent reference to the opposition alliance’s tough stand against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, the PM said, “The Indi alliance, RJD-Congress, are not capable of doing anything except appeasement and vote bank politics for which they are protecting infiltrators.”

“They always have a problem with our cultural heritage. Their leaders may find time to go on foreign tours. But you will never see them visiting the Ram temple in Ayodhya, which was built after a struggle that lasted 500 years,” he said.

Terming his opponents as ‘namdars’, Modi said he could not digest the fact that a leader from a backward class, who used to sell tea, has reached such heights.

He said, “They need to know that I attribute my achievements not to their blessings, but to the blessings of the people and the Constitution made by Babasaheb Ambedkar.”

He alleged that Congress and RJD leaders insulted Ambedkar. He claimed that all surveys were showing that the RJD-led alliance would face a humiliating defeat in the assembly elections, hence he was making “unrealistic promises”.

“The RJD-Congress manifesto is actually a rate chart, their promises are for ‘extortion’, extortion, corruption, plunder,” he alleged.

He claimed, “All surveys indicate that the NDA is headed for a big victory. And the RJD-Congress alliance will face its worst defeat in its history.”

Modi also alleged that the Congress-RJD alliance stands for five ‘K’ – ‘Katta’ (home-made weapon of lawlessness), ‘Kruta’ (brutality), ‘Katuta’ (social resentment), ‘Kushasan’ (misgovernance) and corruption.

He remarked with a hint of alarm, “What kind of songs are being played in RJD’s rallies. They are talking about ‘Katta’, ‘Chhura’ (dagger), ‘Dunaali’ (double-barreled gun) and kidnapping of sisters and daughters.” Modi claimed that 35,000-40,000 kidnappings had taken place during the RJD rule in the state, and “goons used to loot vehicle showrooms”, an indirect reference to the marriage of former chief minister Rabri Devi’s eldest daughter Misa Bharti, who is currently the MP from Patliputra.

“On the other hand, the NDA stands for preservation and respect of cultural heritage and ensuring all-round development of all states including Bihar,” asserted the PM, who began his speech by getting the crowd to chant ‘Phir Ek Baar NDA Sarkar’ and ‘Phir Ek Baar Sushasan Sarkar’ (NDA government once again, once again good governance government).

He told young voters, “Your parents voted to end ‘Jungle Raj’, you have to vote for a prosperous Bihar.”

Referring to the land-for-jobs scam, in which India Bloc’s CM candidate Tejashwi Yadav has been made an accused, Modi asked, “Can those who looted the railways develop connectivity in the state?” The PM also mentioned the case of kidnapping and murder of Golu, the eight-year-old son of a bank employee in Muzaffarpur in 2001, which was in the news.

He alleged that during the RJD rule, the Chief Minister’s office of Bihar has become a den of mafias.

Without naming Champa Biswas, he also talked about “an IAS officer’s wife writing a letter to the then Governor of Bihar alleging that she was raped by ruling party leaders”.
