New Delhi, Oct 30 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Leader of the Opposition (LOP) in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and accused him of lacking commitment towards public welfare and indulging in ‘vote-bank politics’.

The comments came during his visit to Darbhanga in Bihar, where he spoke to IANS on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s recent political statements and his comments related to Chhath Puja.

Taking aim at the Congress leader, Gupta said, “PM Modi is continuously working in the service of the country and many people are not able to digest this. As far as Rahul Gandhi is concerned, he comes out from time to time like a frog in the election season, comes out for a while, says something and then disappears.”

He said that the people of Bihar and the country “know his true character” and claimed that he has neither worked for the public welfare in the past nor will do so in the future.

Responding to Gandhi’s criticism over Chhath celebrations in Delhi, the Delhi CM accused him of insulting the sentiments of Purvanchali communities.

The CM commented, “Those who are sad to see that what never happened in Delhi in the last 27 years of Congress and AAP is now happening under BJP.”

He said, “If you insult Chhath Maiya and insult the brothers and sisters of Purvanchal for vote bank politics, then it will not be allowed. The people of Purvanchal and Bihar understand this.”

Notably, his statement comes a day after Rahul Gandhi addressed a rally in Muzaffarpur, where he said PM Modi’s politics is driven by “drama and deception”, citing the PM’s recent symbolic “Yamuna bath” during Chhath Puja.

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi said, “There was no Yamuna ji there – just a pond filled with clean water for Modi ji. Clean water was brought through pipes for his photo-op, while real India bathes in polluted water.”

Turning to Bihar’s development, Gandhi said the youth of the state have been deprived of opportunities for decades under Nitish Kumar’s rule.

“Nitish Kumar has run the government for 20 years, but what has he done for education, health or jobs?” he asked, describing the JDU-BJP alliance as a “remote-controlled government” run by Delhi.
