Chennai, Oct 30 (IANS) In a shocking case of murder in broad daylight, three people, including two women, have been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of a Puducherry youth in the heart of the city.

A senior police officer said the three accused were being interrogated to get more information about their relationship with the rest of the gang.

Another suspect is believed to be absconding and efforts are underway to arrest him.

The deceased has been identified as Prakash, who was engaged in government contract work and had come to Chennai for business-related activities.

According to the police, the incident took place on the 4th Main Road of Ashok Nagar, where Prakash was sitting inside a luxury car and talking to his girlfriend.

Suddenly, a four-member gang riding on two motorcycles stopped the vehicle, pulled Prakash out and hacked him to death with a knife before fleeing on Wednesday.

The horrific attack, carried out in full public view, sent shockwaves through the surrounding area, with frightened onlookers screaming and running for cover.

On receiving the information, police from Ashok Nagar police station reached the spot.

Prakash’s body was found soaked in blood next to his car and was sent to the Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem.

Based on CCTV footage of the area, police tracked and arrested three suspects – Dhananchezhiyan (42), his wife Sukanya (37) and her friend Gunasundari (27) – from Vandavasi in Tiruvannamalai district on Wednesday evening.

The couple is working in the Cuddalore Transport Department. Preliminary investigation has revealed that Sukanya already knew Prakash and it is suspected that the murder took place due to a personal dispute.

Police said the attackers had followed Prakash’s vehicle for some distance before attacking him. The murder, which took place in broad daylight, has created tension in the area with residents expressing horror at the brazenness of the attack.

Senior police officers have taken stock of the incident site and additional personnel have been deployed to maintain order while the investigation continues.
