Everything we know about Putin’s new nuclear-armed underwater drone Poseidon

chairman Vladimir Putin They say Russia has successfully tested a new nuclear-powered and nuclear-capable underwater drone, declaring that the new weapon cannot be stopped.

Speaking at a meeting with wounded soldiers in Ukraine, Putin said a nuclear-powered Poseidon drone was tested for the first time on Tuesday, describing it as a “huge success”.

He said that Poseidon is unmatched in speed and depth and “there is no way to stop it.”

He said the nuclear reactor powering Poseidon is “100 times smaller” than that of submarines, and the power of its nuclear warhead is “significantly greater than that of our potential Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile”.

Will Ukraine be able to defend Pokrovsk? Military analysts confirm ‘difficult situation’

Military and open-source analysts have said Ukrainian forces are struggling to stop the growing Russian advance around the eastern city of Pokrovsk.

In a statement, Ukraine’s 7th Corps said Russian forces had deployed about 11,000 troops in an effort to encircle the larger Pokrovsk area.

It said enemy groups that have already infiltrated the city are attempting to advance to the north and north-west.

Ukrainian open-source group DeepState said Russia was able to sever a military logistics route to the neighboring city of Mirnohrad through infantry ambushes and drone strikes.

It warned that Ukraine would need to deploy brigade-level forces rather than smaller units to stop the Russian incursion into Pokrovsk.

“The situation in Pokrovsk is on the verge of becoming critical and is worsening to such an extent that it may be too late to fix everything,” the group said.

It also posted what it said was footage of Ukrainian forces destroying the Russian flag, which had briefly flown over the city’s gates.

Republican lawmakers criticize US troop cuts in Romania

Donald Trump’s decision to reduce the number of troops in Romania has been criticized by the top two Republican lawmakers leading Pentagon oversight committees in the US Congress.

Romania’s Defense Ministry said yesterday that the US plans to cut the number of troops in eastern Europe, including those that were to be deployed to Romania’s Mihail Kogălniceanu air base. The US military said the move “does not signal a US withdrawal from Europe or a diminished commitment to NATO.”

But Senator Roger Wicker, who leads the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Representative Mike Rogers, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, said the decision was “unconscionable and directly contrary to the President’s strategy.”

“We strongly oppose the decision not to maintain a rotational U.S. brigade in Romania,” the statement said.

Lawmakers said the move sent the wrong signal to Russia and were concerned it was done without consulting Congress.

Despite concerns in NATO’s eastern flank about a possible reduction of the US presence in the region at a time when Russia continues the war in Ukraine, Trump said in September that Washington could increase its military presence in Poland.

Hungarian PM Orban will meet Trump in Washington on November 7

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is set to meet US President Donald Trump in Washington on November 7, the prime minister’s chief of staff told a briefing this morning.

Gergely Gulyas said the meeting would give the two leaders an opportunity to discuss a program that could lead to a peace agreement in Ukraine.

Earlier this month, Trump had announced that he would meet Putin in Hungary discuss bringing end of war in ukraineIn a post on Truth Social, he suggested that his success in bringing about a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza could be a catalyst for ending the war in Europe.

Orban, Moscow’s key ally in the EU, stressed that preparations for the meeting in Budapest were still ongoing.

The location was also potentially problematic because Putin is wanted at the International Criminal Court, although the Hungarian government was unlikely to cooperate with the warrant because he is in the process of leaving the court.

Any visit to Budapest would require Putin to fly over the airspace of other EU countries.

Poland said it could ground Putin’s plane and arrest him on an international warrant if he flew over its territory, but Bulgaria said Putin could use its airspace to reach the meeting.

Orbán had earlier said he would discuss US sanctions on Russian oil companies with Trump at their planned meeting.

The scale of the Russian attack was not immediately clear.

A look at the US and Russia’s nuclear arsenals as Trump resumes testing

Donald Trump has ordered the US military to resume nuclear weapons testing for the first time in 33 years.

Trump, without naming any other countries, portrayed the decision as a logical response to other countries’ own testing.

This comes after Vladimir Putin announced the successful testing of a nuclear-powered and nuclear-capable cruise missile as well as a nuclear-powered torpedo.

It also follows China’s rapid expansion of its nuclear stockpile in recent years.

The Arms Control Association says the United States has a stockpile of 5,225 nuclear weapons and Russia has 5,580.

Putin said yesterday that Russia had successfully test-fired the Poseidon nuclear-powered super torpedo, which military analysts say is capable of devastating coastal areas by triggering huge radioactive ocean waves.

As Trump has toughened both his rhetoric and his stance on Russia, Putin has publicly flexed his nuclear muscle with the test of a new Burevestnik cruise missile on October 21 and a nuclear launch exercise on October 22.

US nuclear weapons testing would be seen as a deliberate assertion of US strategic power over Russia and China. Putin has repeatedly said that Russia would begin its own testing if the United States did so.
