luke littler He will not compete in Wednesday’s Players Championship event after missing a strict registration deadline after being stuck in traffic.
The PDC confirmed the world No. 2 missed the 11am cut-off in Wigan.
It means the 18-year-old will be absent from one of the last two tournaments for the Players to secure their place at the season-ending Players Championship final in Minehead, with Thursday being the last chance.
Littler boosted his hopes of securing one of the 64 spots that were once under threat after victory at the Players Championship 32 earlier this month.
But ‘The Nuke’ will not run today and the situation was highlighted on social media.
“It’s back to bed,” said the world champion. “Wonder who they’re gonna call”.
Littler was aiming to become world number one in the game last week but crashed out of the European Championships after a thrilling 10-7 second-round battle with James Wade.
Littler’s rival and world No. 1 Luke Humphries was stunned by Gian van Veen in the final, but the ‘cool hand’ reiterated he is focused on maintaining his form at two Players Championship events this week.
“The next two Players Championship events for me are in Wigan to complete the Pro Tour season,” Humphries said. “I was naturally disappointed to lose the European Championship final, but Gian played well, he performed well and deserved to win.
“I’m looking forward to improving my game and putting in some performances here before the Grand Slams.”
Littler took to social media to hit out at fans who doubted his ability to qualify for the Players Championship final with a top prize of £120,000.
“I’m on social media,” he said. “A lot of people were saying I wouldn’t make it. Well, I won today.”
