Jabalpur: The broad daylight murder of Bajrang Dal activist Nilesh Rajak and then the alleged suicide of the father of one of the suspected attackers has created tension in Madhya Pradesh’s Katni, prompting the administration to issue prohibitory orders to bring the situation under control.
Bajrang Dal activist Nilesh Rajak, 35, who was the former Gau Seva Pramukh (cow protection chief) of Katni district, was shot dead allegedly by two unidentified men while he was reportedly standing near a bank in Vijayaraghogarh area on Wednesday.
Two suspects involved in the alleged murder of Rajak have been arrested after a police encounter early on Wednesday and are being interrogated by senior police officers. According to the police, the arrested people have been identified as Akram Khan and Prince Joseph.
In a shocking turn of events, the father of one of the suspects also died by alleged suicide, further deepening the mystery of this horrific incident. Minister in-charge of Katni district and School Education Minister of the state, Uday Pratap Singh reached Katni and met senior officials.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who is in Bihar, wrote on Twitter that he has directed the Katni district administration and police to take strict action against those involved in taking law and order into their own hands.
“In a recent meeting, I had given clear instructions that no criminal should be spared. There will be no compromise with law and order in the state,” the Chief Minister wrote in the letter.
The murder spread panic in the area. Police teams and senior officers immediately reached the spot. Forensic experts collected spent shells and tire marks from the spot, while CCTV footage of nearby shops is being scanned to identify the shooters.
The murder took place in Vijayraghaugadh town of Kaimor police station area at around 10.30 am on Wednesday. In the wake of the murder, the local police station in-charge and a head constable were removed from active duty.
