Patna, Oct 29 (IANS) As Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi launched his campaign for the Bihar Assembly elections with rallies in Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga, the BJP on Wednesday questioned his late participation in the elections and asked if he was a “political tourist”.

BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “Is Rahul Gandhi a tourist in Bihar? He was missing for a long time and now has suddenly appeared. If Rahul Gandhi is a political tourist, then Bihar welcomes all tourists and we also give our greetings to ‘Tourist Rahul’.”

Bihar minister Nitin Nabin said, “After so many days, Rahul Gandhi has suddenly remembered that elections are being held in Bihar. He had gone there to drop ‘nukes and nuclear bombs’, but instead scored self-goals. In fact, he probably doesn’t even remember the dates of Bihar elections, and if you ask him, he wouldn’t be able to tell.”

Addressing his first election rally in Muzaffarpur district, Rahul Gandhi said, “I agree with Tejashwi Yadav, who just before me had said that the government in Bihar is being run by remote control. They are just using Nitish Kumar’s face.”

Gandhi also hit out at the ruling BJP at the Centre, calling it “against social justice” and claimed that the Narendra Modi government agreed to conduct the caste census only after pressure from the opposition.

He further alleged that “two Indias are emerging” – one for common citizens and the other for a handful of billionaires. “This is why places like Bihar are struggling with poverty and their huge potential remains untapped,” the Congress leader said.

Bihar Assembly elections will be held in two phases on November 6 and 11, while the counting of votes will take place on November 14. The Election Commission has already announced the election schedule for the 243-member Assembly.

With this announcement, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force in the entire state. In the first phase, voting will be held in 121 constituencies, while in the second phase, voting will be held in 122 constituencies.
