According to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), this was the first meeting of the common-level mechanism in the western region after the 24th round of talks of Special Representatives held on August 19, 2025. βThe talks were held in a friendly and cordial atmosphere,β the ministry said.
The External Affairs Ministry noted that the two sides reviewed the progress since the 22nd round of Corps Commander-level discussions in October 2024 and “shared the view that peace and tranquility has been maintained in the India-China border areas.” The statement said both sides agreed to “continue to use existing mechanisms to resolve any ground issues along the border to maintain stability.”
In a separate statement, the Chinese Defense Ministry said the meeting was held on the Indian side of the Moldo-Chushul border point, and added that the two delegations were engaged in “active and in-depth communication on the management of the western section of the China-India border”.
The Chinese readout further said the two sides agreed to “continue communication and dialogue through military and diplomatic channels under the guidance of the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries” β referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping β and “to jointly safeguard peace and tranquility in the China-India border areas.”
The Corps Commander-level talks remain an important mechanism to reduce tensions and pursue disengagement at the remaining friction points in eastern Ladakh, where troops from the two countries have been facing off since May 2020.
While withdrawal of troops has been completed in many areas including Pangong Tso, Galwan and Gogra, unresolved issues remain in Depsang and Demchok.
The 23rd round follows the meeting of Special Representatives held in August 2025, which stressed the importance of restoring normalcy in border management and maintaining comprehensive bilateral stability.
