‘Results, not rhetoric’: BJP on the pretext of Rekha Gupta government vs Kejriwal

New Delhi, Oct 28 (IANS) The BJP on Tuesday attacked former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his inaction in dealing with Yamuna and air pollution, using the punch line ‘results, not rhetoric’ and highlighted the Rekha Gupta-led BJP government’s efforts to cause artificial rain during the day.

Although the two attempts at cloud seeding in Delhi did not yield immediate desired results, Amit Malviya, in-charge of the BJP’s national information and technology department, praised the BJP government in Delhi for its bold attempt to combat air pollution in a scientific manner.

He also attacked Kejriwal for his failure to experiment with cloud seeding during his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP’s 10-year rule in the national capital).

In a post on X, Malviya wrote, “Arvind Kejriwal loved to flaunt his IIT degree – but when it came to governance, he failed miserably.”

“From cleaning the Yamuna to tackling Delhi’s deadly pollution, he gave only excuses. His corrupt and destructive liquor policy left families in ruins, while Delhi’s roads, schools and hospitals were left to rot,” Malviya said.

Appreciating the efforts of the current Delhi government, Malviya said, “In contrast, the BJP government has cleaned the Yamuna in just 8 months and is now using cloud seeding for artificial rain to fight pollution – the majority of which comes from AAP-ruled Punjab. This is what real governance looks like – results, not rhetoric.”

On several occasions in the past, Malviya has criticized the AAP-led Punjab government for its failure to prevent crop burning that worsens air quality across north India, including Delhi, during winter.

Last month, the BJP leader had raised concerns over possible farm fires in Punjab and their harmful impact on Delhi’s air quality and asked Kejriwal to “urgently” address the issue.

“Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann should immediately address the issue of farm fires before Delhi and entire NCR start suffocating again. Public health and clean air cannot wait. The responsibility lies with the Aam Aadmi Party,” Malviya wrote on Twitter.

His comments come at a time when Kejriwal and his party’s government in the agricultural state claimed that Punjab’s farm fires have little role in worsening Delhi’s air quality in winter.

BJP and AAP have been at loggerheads for almost a decade now over Delhi’s toxic air and its link with farm fires in Punjab, with the BJP accusing Kejriwal of changing his stand on the link between farm fires and Delhi’s toxic air.
