New Delhi, Oct 28 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday joined Chhath Puja along with devotees observing fast on the Yamuna banks and later launched a cleaning campaign at the ghats after the conclusion of the festival.

CM Gupta reached Hathi Ghat on Yamuna river near ITO at sunrise, where he along with devotees offered ‘arghya’ to the rising sun and performed traditional rituals.

The Chief Minister remarked that the grandeur of this year’s Chhath celebrations goes beyond Delhi, becoming a subject of admiration across the country.

He said that as soon as the devout mothers and sisters offered Arghya at the holy ghats of Yamuna, it seemed as if the entire city was bathed in the light of faith, discipline and devotion.

He said, the golden rays of the sun were shimmering on the rippling waters of Yamuna and with the blessings of ‘Chhathi Maiya’ every house and door was seen glowing with new hope.

Devotees expressed their appreciation for the arrangements made by the Delhi government, noting that the Yamuna water appeared cleaner than in many years.

Women devotees appreciated the efforts of the government in ensuring cleanliness, security, water supply and lighting at the ghats and described it as exemplary and historic.

On this occasion, Delhi Cabinet Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Kapil Mishra and Ravinder Indraj Singh and other dignitaries were also present.

The Chief Minister said that a wonderful confluence of devotion and faith is being seen in Delhi. “It is not just a religious ritual but a symbol of New Delhi that stands at the intersection of culture and cleanliness, reverence and service,” he said.

He said that the smile on the faces of the brothers and sisters of Purvanchal is the biggest blessing for him and the truest measure of the success of his government.

Expressing his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister said that such achievements were possible only due to his blessings and public trust.

In the afternoon, CM Gupta took part in the cleaning campaign at Vasudev Ghat on Yamuna near Kashmiri Gate.

On the occasion of the launch of the campaign, the Chief Minister himself swept the premises and actively participated in the cleaning activities along with the teams present.

He said the government has been carrying out cleanliness and sanitation campaigns after every major festival, as it is strongly committed to maintaining the cleanliness of the national capital.

Development Minister Kapil Mishra and officials of related departments were also present during the campaign at Vasudev Ghat.

The Chief Minister said that after the grand celebration of Chhath Mahaparva, it is a collective responsibility to restore the ghats to their pristine condition with cleanliness and ecological balance.

He said that every festival is truly complete only when its surroundings remain clean and beautiful.

He emphasized that cleanliness is not a one-day program but a continuous effort which should run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, throughout the year with equal participation of both the government and the public.
