Mumbai, Oct 28 (IANS) Political temperatures have risen in Maharashtra with Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray launching a scathing attack on Union Home Minister Amit Shah, calling him an “anaconda” and accusing the BJP of trying to “swallow Mumbai” through political manipulation and illegal land acquisition.
Thackeray’s comments come after a report in Shiv Sena UBT mouthpiece Saamana alleged that a new BJP office was built “by land grabbing at lightning speed”.
Making a sharp comparison between the BJP and the anaconda recently introduced in Mumbai’s Jijamata garden, Thackeray said there is no limit to the ruling party’s greed to control Mumbai.
Reacting strongly to Thackeray’s statement, leaders of the ruling Mahayuti alliance hit back, accusing him of “swallowing up Mumbai’s wealth” during his tenure.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde hit back at the comment, saying, “If we talk about the ‘Anaconda’ comment, the one calling others Anaconda is actually the real Anaconda himself. He had tightly wrapped up Mumbai’s treasury. The special thing about Anaconda is that his hunger never ends. He swallowed Mumbai’s wealth, swallowed Mumbai itself and even grabbed many plots of land.” For.”
Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule also hit out at the Shiv Sena (UBT) chief, comparing him to a “python”.
He told reporters, “Uddhav Thackeray has swallowed Mumbai. He is like a python, no ordinary snake. This snake sits at home, sleeps all day, eats all day and it has ruined Mumbai. On the other hand, Home Minister Amit Shah has worked for the country from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, strengthened India and dealt with terrorism.”
Bawankule said, “For more than 11 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, he has helped eliminate terrorists. Would you call such a person an anaconda? Such pythons have destroyed Mumbai for more than 40 years. Uddhav Thackeray could not even manage his party properly and has left it weak, and has also harmed Hindus.”
He said, “He is someone who has lost his mental balance, especially after the elections. He is trying to prove his leadership by making derogatory remarks against Amit Shah and Devendra Fadnavis; however, he should know that leadership is proved by winning elections, not by abusing.”
Joining the attack, BJP MLA Ram Kadam also took a dig at the former Maharashtra chief minister, saying Thackeray’s comments reflected his “desperation and deteriorating mental state”.
Speaking to IANS, Kadam said, “Uddhav Thackeray has been abandoned by everyone, and his recent statement shows that his mental condition is not good and he is dejected. No relative or minister is keeping himself away, so he resorts to baseless comments.”
“He knows nothing except taunting. How can he criticize our home minister? Amit Shah earns respect through hard work, while Uddhav, a lazy man who inherited politics, has failed to maintain it,” he said.
