A powerful earthquake struck western Turkey on Monday, causing the collapse of at least three buildings that had already been damaged by a previous tremor, officials said. No casualties were immediately confirmed.

The 6.1 magnitude earthquake was centered in Sindirgi, Balikesir province, according to AFAD, the disaster and emergency management agency.

It hit at 22:48 local time (1948 GMT) at a depth of 5.99 kilometers (3.72 mi).
