The alleged acid attack case involving a 20-year-old Delhi University student has taken a dramatic turn, with Delhi Police alleging that the incident was staged on the instructions of her father, who is now facing arrest on rape charges.

According to news agency PTI, the second-year B.Com student enrolled in the Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB) of Delhi University had alleged that on the morning of Sunday, October 26, three men threw acid on her near Ashok Vihar, causing burns to her hands.

He identified the accused persons as Jitendra and his associates Ishaan and Armaan (both brothers), who later turned out to be his relatives.

DCP (Northwest) Bisham Singh had earlier said that the alleged attacker had been “stalking her for months”. However, CCTV footage and location details cast doubt on the allegations, as police did not locate the accused at the scene and no evidence such as thrown acid bottles were found.

Police found major discrepancies

Police noticed discrepancies, including why the student got off the e-rickshaw about 300 meters before her college gate.

According to PTI, no eyewitness or CCTV evidence supported the attack claim. Officials did not even find traces of acid at that place.

The police investigated various aspects of the case and the girl later revealed that she had lied about the matter because her father wanted to avenge the rape allegation against her.

“She allegedly applied toilet cleaner on her hand after getting down from the e-rickshaw…and shouted to attract attention,” a police officer said, according to PTI.

Rape allegations and personal disputes

During interrogation, the student’s father Akil Khan allegedly confessed to creating the false story to target Jitendra, whose wife had recently accused Khan of rape and blackmail.

The woman reportedly worked at Khan’s socks factory between 2021 and 2024 and reportedly alleged that Khan sexually harassed her and threatened her with private images.

Police confirmed that he had called the authorities on October 24 and 25, before the acid attack.

In 2018, Ishaan and Armaan’s mother Shabnam had also lodged an FIR in Mangolpuri, accusing Khan of rape and acid attack. The matter is still pending in the court.

Police said that a property dispute has been going on between the families for a long time.

There is a possibility of legal action against both

According to News18, Delhi Police said they will proceed with relevant provisions under the Indian Justice Code (BNS) against both the woman and her father for the “fabricated story”.

Meanwhile, Jitendra has said that he was not even anywhere near the site of the alleged attack, his location was verified at Karol Bagh, about 5 km away. According to PTI, his relatives Ishaan and Armaan are in Agra and will soon join the investigation.
