Jacob Ingebrigtsen Has revealed its bold target of breaking three world records in 2026.

Ingebrigtsen has previously stated her ambition to set 10 outdoor world records throughout her career and currently holds three – 2000 metres, 3000 metres, and two miles (3,218 metres).
Of her 2026 triple ambitions, the 5000m may prove the toughest with Ingebrigtsen’s current personal best of 12:48.45 more than 13 seconds slower. Joshua CheptegeA world record of 12:35.36 was set in 2020.
The great Hicham El Guerrouj holds the other two records, with his 1500 m mark of 3:26.00 standing since 1998, although the Norwegian’s PB is just 0.73 seconds outside that. El Guerrouj ran a mile in 3:43.13 in 1999, while Ingebrigtsen’s best time in the prestigious distance is not far behind – at 3:26.73.
There are no global athletics championships in 2026, but the European Championships will take place in Birmingham in August, while World Athletics has created new, big-earning Ultimate Championships for the next months to try to boost interest in the fall year.
